Proposed Legislation An Attack on Faculty Freedom of Association Rights

In November, the BC Liberals tabled Bill 18, the Advanced Education Statues Amendment Act. If passed into law, the Bill would effectively bar local faculty association executives from standing for election as faculty-elected representatives on the Board of their local college, institute, or university. At Last: Academic Freedom for Kwantlen Faculty

Did You Know?

  • Can't find a parking spot mid-day? You can park in a hybrid spot with a Reserved parking pass for up to 3 hours if there are no reserved spots available.
  • Can I require a student to leave the classroom? According to policy C21, you can ask a student to leave the class if they are being disruptive.  More information can be found at http://kwantlen.ca/facilities/security.html.
  • Need a sick day but don't have access to benefits? If you are a Non-Regular Type 1 faculty member, you can access the sick-leave fund, which operates on a first-come, first serve basis (see article 15.07 of the Collective Agreement). The sick leave fund provides paid leave that otherwise would not be available for NR1 faculty, as the disability benefits outlined in article 15.06 apply to Regular and Non-Regular Type 2 faculty.
