What are the Purposes of the Association?

The purposes of the Association:

  • Protect the welfare, professional interests, and working conditions of its members;

  • Assist in protecting and enhancing the freedom and quality of teaching, thought, and enquiry within the University.


What does the KFA do?

  • Protects the interests and working conditions of faculty members by:

    • Negotiating collective agreements;

    • Representing faculty in disputes or disagreements over interpretation of the collective agreement; and

    • Regulating labour relations between employer and union members.

  • Maintains affiliations at three levels:

    • Local (New Westminster & District labour Council; Vancouver & District Labour Council)

    • Provincial (Federation of Post-Secondary Educators; BC Federation of Labour)

    • National (Canadian Association of University Teachers; National Union of Canadian Association of University Teachers; Canadian Labour Congress)
